Drivers warned to take extra care
Motorists have been warned to take extra care as heavy rain hits the region.
The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning yesterday for outbreaks of heavy rain throughout today. The warning is valid until 3pm.
Their chief forecaster said: “A slow moving front will bring heavy bursts of rain, giving the potential for over 50mm of rain within a few hours. “Leaves may impede drainage, increasing the risk of some flooding, for example, to sections of road.”
The regional forecast for the next five days is as follows:
Today:
Heavy rain across Cornwall and Devon will steadily move northeastwards through the day, to lie across eastern counties by mid afternoon, although with somewhat reduced intensity by then. Brighter conditions will follow on from the west. Maximum Temperature 17°C.
Tonight:
Some rain at times across the east, but this should gradually peter out through the early hours. Clearer conditions will develop from the west, as winds fall light. Minimum Temperature 9°C.
Wednesday:
Much of the region will see a dry day, and with relatively light winds and some sunshine, it should feel warm. However, scattered showers will affect western areas. Maximum Temperature 16°C.
Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:
Breezy and often unsettled with bands of rain moving erratically northeast across the region, interspersed by drier and sometimes brighter spells. Temperatures will often be above the seasonal average.
