Exeter Christmas Lights Switch-On
Princesshay is pleased to announce that it will once again be hosting Exeter city centre’s annual Christmas lights switch on event on Thursday 19th November 2015.
There will be a spectacular new decoration scheme, lighting up areas and walkways never previously illuminated. Thousands of LED lights, including lit canopies and hanging chandeliers, as well as lighting projections, will compliment the Christmas Tree centre pieces and a special walk through lit up bauble structure. Watch out for the two polar bears!
The new lights are being provided by First Christmas, and their switch-on will coincide with a festive party beginning at 4pm featuring live entertainment provided on stage in Princesshay Square, including an appearance by Sound of the Sirens in the lead-up to the switch-on. This two piece local girl group recently scored a coup by appearing on the new series of TFI Friday, after performing for DJ and TV presenter Chris Evans.
The Princesshay lights will then be official switched-on by Michael Caines MBE and Tony Rowe OBE at 6.30pm.
People can this year have their picture taken in a special Snow Ball globe, which will be located at the lower end of Bedford Street, with 10% of all proceeds going to Princesshay's charity of the year Age UK Exeter.
Friday 20th November sees Princesshay’s Roman Walk twinkle with even more festive cheer with the Charity Christmas Tree Festival. The festival provides local charities with the opportunity to decorate a Christmas tree to help raise both awareness and money and this year there will be 35 on view. The Lord Mayor of Exeter, Councillor Olwen Foggin will officially switch on the tree lights 5.00pm.
The popular Princesshay Christmas lights switch-on event also marks the start of late night shopping in the city, with a fantastic choice of brands in Princesshay offering shoppers everything they need, every day. Find out the latest news and full details, plus information about other events and offers at www.princesshay.com Most shops will be open until 9pm on every Thursday evening until Christmas.
The Princesshay Switch-On will also coincide with the start of the ever popular Christmas Market on Cathedral Green which will be running until 19th December.
Christmas lights in the High Street will be provided for the final year by Exeter City Council, with the newly formed Exeter BID company providing additional lighting in certain streets where there have not been lights before.
Stagecoach will be running additional park and ride services into the City as in previous years.
