A leading Exeter law firm has performed strongly in a national independent guide to the legal profession, Chambers 2016, with a number of teams and individual lawyers achieving band 1 status.

Stephens Scown LLP achieved band 1 rankings in the Exeter region for family law and corporate M&A.  It also saw its private client ranking rise from band 3 to band 2.

The firm’s “fantastic” family law team, widely regarded as the best in Devon and Cornwall, has retained its number one status, and once again partner Liz Allen, based in Exeter, has been placed in the individual band 1 rankings.

The corporate M&A team’s band 1 ranking now applies to the whole of the South West region, and three lawyers have achieved “leading individual” status.

Overall, Stephens Scown has 29 lawyers ranked as leading individuals, with five individuals achieving a band 1 ranking. From the Exeter office, in addition to Liz Allen, Susie Murray in the agriculture team also secured a top rating.

Meanwhile, David Culshaw, associate in the corporate practice, was ranked for the first time this year as ‘one to watch’.

The Chambers guide is particularly highly regarded in the legal profession because of the emphasis it places on feedback from clients.

Robert Camp, Stephens Scown’s managing partner, said: “Chambers is a valuable and influential guide because it is built around what clients say.  We are very pleased to have achieved strong results once again this year, reflecting the emphasis that we place on client service.  The results are the fruit of all the hard work from our teams across the firm who are completely focused on the needs of clients.”
