£500,000 reconstruction scheme for Trow Hill
A major £500,000 investment to reconstruct the A3052 near Sidmouth will get underway in January.
Trow Hill will be reconstructed and resurfaced between Steven’s Cross and Dunscombe Lane, as part of a seven week programme of essential maintenance unveiled by Devon County Council.
Ahead of the resurfacing work, drainage improvements are programmed to start from Monday 4 January 2016. This is anticipated to take three weeks to complete.
Councillor Stuart Hughes, Devon County Council Cabinet member for Highway Management and local member for Sidmouth and Sidford, said: “This is a major investment in our county’s road network and is one of the biggest structural maintenance projects on our road network this financial year.
"This is a busy route for commuters and is well used by visitors to the county all year round, so it is essential that these improvements are made. We have previously carried out temporary patching but this road now needs extensive repair. Unfortunately, with this being such a large scale scheme, delays will be inevitable but every effort will be made to minimise disruption to motorists.”
A daytime convoy lane closure (from 9am to 6pm) will be used throughout the drainage work, and some delays should be expected. For the safety of motorists and site workers, the speed limit will be reduced to 10mph through the area where the convoy system is operating, and 30mph on approach to the site in both directions.
The reconstruction and resurfacing will be carried out during overnight closures from 7pm to 7am, starting from Monday 18 January. It is expected to take around four weeks. The work is weather dependent and therefore the schedule may change.
Work will be carried out by contractor Lafarge Tarmac, who will maintain access for local residents and businesses throughout the scheme.
Details of revised bus times and diversions will be confirmed nearer the time, with the diversion map being published on roadworks.org.
