Transplantation

A Sense of Place and Culture: British and Australian narrative jewellery.

Curated by Professor Norman Cherry, University of Lincoln, in conjunction with the National Centre for Craft and Design, this exhibition of contemporary narrative jewellery explores a sense of place and cultural identity through the theme of Transplantation.

A carefully selected group of contemporary jewellery artists from the UK and Australia were asked to create a body of work which would articulate the notion of Transplantation. Each has their own experience of cultural, familial, and artistic transplantation of one sort or another. Each has drawn on those experiences to create work which is powerful, engaging and thought-provoking, and which we hope will encourage viewers to reflect seriously on the topic and consider how it relates to themselves.
