Exeter junior to represent Team GB
Exeter's Kam Powell has been selected for the Great Britain Men's under-19 water polo squad.
The team are ready to compete in the European Championships Qualifiers this week in Antalya where they will face Montenegro, Belgium and the hosts Turkey.
The four-team competition will take place at the Süleyman Erol pool from May 6th-8th and the top two sides will progress to this September’s showpiece tournament in Holland.
As part of Team GB’s preparations, the players have spent the past 12 months training intensively in the new 30m pool in Beswick, Manchester, and they’ve also gained valuable international experience from trips to Spain and Holland.
Coached by Tim Dunsbee and Andy McGinty, a dedicated support team has also been drafted in to focus on improving the squad’s strength and psychology.
The full Great Britain playing squad is as follows: Aaron Winstanley (captain, City of Manchester), Dan Paddon (vice-captain, City of Manchester/Chelmsford), Dylan Green (City of Manchester), Joe Hazeldine (Worthing), Ben Riding (City of Manchester), Chris Ray (City of Manchester), Matt Kelly (Solihull), Kameron Powell (Exeter), Matt Madden (Solihull), Joel Leighton (City of Sheffield), Jordan Elliot (Solihull), Ashley Castle (Bristol Central) and Peter Pickford (Watford).
In total, there are four under-19 qualifying tournaments taking place across Europe from May 4th-8th - in Turkey, Malta, Georgia and Azerbaijan.
The full draw is as follows and the top two from each group will qualify for the main competition that will take place in Alphen aan den Rijn (Netherlands) between September 11th and 18th.
