It's Strictly Young Farmers: Gallery
Blackpool hosted the National Young Farmers ballroom dancing competition finals, which saw eight teams from across England and Wales compete.
Haldon Group of Young Farmers representing Devon were delighted to walk away with a well-deserved third place, in the finals which saw stiff competition from other teams. Clun Valley YFC from Shropshire and Hermon YFC from Pembrokeshire came first and second respectively.
Each team had to perform a dance that included two elements of Latin and two from ballroom, with music and costumes reflecting the theme ‘Tomorrow’s World’.
Haldon Young Farmers was a mixed team from Cheriton & Tedburn, Bow, Newton St Cyres and Kenn Valley and included Dan Grist, Alice Giles, Matt Hurell, Katie Grist, Georgina Davie, Zoe Burrow, Ben Rowe, Bryony Berry, Laura Girst and Ed Quicke.
The team worked on the performance over the last few months, with weekly practises to improve technique and timing.
Youngest member of the dance group, 16 year old Zoe Burrow, choreographed the dance after watching YouTube videos to get the basic steps.
“Zoe did an amazing job choreographing us, bearing in mind we hadn’t danced ballroom before, she taught us the basic steps and then we worked hard to develop lifts and more advanced moves.” Said Georgina Davie
The National Finals were judged by Carol May and Lewis Danson from the Carol May Dance Academy who said that the standard was very hard, making it a difficult decision for them to make.
The Haldon Group dance team would like to thank all the young farmers who supported them at the finals, and to family and friends who travelled to Blackpool for the day to watch the performance.
