Bothy warmed by generosity of devon stove maker
Young people staying in a remote bothy in Glen Etive on Scotland’s West Coast will no longer be left out in the cold after a day of extreme outdoor activities, thanks to the warm generosity of Devon-based Woodwarm Stoves.
Woodwarm, in association with Lanarkshire dealership, Stove Experience, donated a Fireview Woodburning Stove to Venture Scotland, a charity which runs an outdoor-based personal development programme designed to build the confidence and skills of young people with complex problems and which leases the Bothy.
“The Bothy is a 45 minute walk from the nearest road and has no electricity. So keeping residents warm, clean and dry on long dark evenings in this location where the weather can be pretty wild presents a real challenge.’ commented Rupert Snook from Woodwarm Stoves. ‘The Bothy has no electricity so a Woodburning Stove was the only practical solution. We decided on a Fireview multi-fuel stove which provides 5 kilowatts of heat and also doubles up as a boiler, providing hot water for the residents.”
Rob Branter from Venture Scotland is delighted to be the recipient of Woodwarm’s warm generosity. ‘The Bothy offers a unique atmosphere for residents and is a place we regard very much as the spiritual home of our organisation’ he said. ’Young people can work in teams and feel safe to experiment with positive and respectful behaviour. It's also a very special place that offers a brilliant resource for inspiring young people about nature and the environment. The Woodwarm Fireview will offer yet another positive activity for residents enabling them to work in teams, find their own sustainable fuel to produce their own heat and hot water.’
