Weather warning issued for Devon

A yellow weather warning has been issued for Devon.

Scattered heavy, thundery showers are expected to develop yet again tomorrow (Wednesday), and will lead to slow-moving downpours, set to continue into Thursday.

Some locations will miss these downpours, but Met Office forecasters are warning of possible localised flooding and disruption to travel where the heavy showers do occur.

Chief forecaster at the Exeter-based agency said: “Rising temperatures will trigger slow-moving heavy showers and thunderstorms.

“Once again, 15-25 mm are likely to fall within an hour in scattered locations, bringing the risk of flooding, especially if across urban areas.”

The weather warning is valid until 10pm on Thursday (16 June). 

The Met Office’s five day regional forecast for Devon is as follows:

Today:
It will be a cloudy start to the day with any early mist or hill fog clearing quickly. Showers will then develop with some heavy and thundery downpours likely at times, although with some sunny spells. Breezier for many. Maximum Temperature 18 °C.

Tonight:
Showers will slowly ease for most although a few may continue through the night. Elsewhere some clear spells will allow patchy fog to form especially as the winds ease. Minimum Temperature 12 °C.

Wednesday:
Wednesday will start fairly cloudy with any mist or fog clearing quickly. Thereafter we'll see a mixture of sunshine and showers, some of which will again be heavy and thundery. Maximum Temperature 18 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:
Sunny spells and heavy, thundery showers on Thursday. Still with a few showers on Friday. Probably generally drier and brighter on Saturday.
