Funding boost for Exmouth Leisure Centre

Exmouth Leisure Centre has been awarded £300,000 of National Lottery funding to help refurbish its swimming pool facilities.

Five projects in the South West are to benefit from Sport England funding. The National Lottery-funded Improvement Fund helps sports and leisure clubs upgrade their facilities.

The five projects join 15 projects across England to receive funding from Sport England’s £6.5 million Improvement Fund. The latest round of funding placed a special emphasis on helping club’s improve swimming facilities. Nine of the nineteen successful projects have received cash to either improve pool changing rooms’ facilities or refurbish tired pools.

Sport England have awarded Exmouth Leisure Centre £300,000 of National Lottery funding to help refurbish its swimming pool facilities.  The cash boost will help the centre complete its major redevelopment, and in particular fund the refurbishment of the centre’s changing facilities and reception area.

The overhaul comes as the centre is making a special effort to entice more people to try swimming.  In particular the centre to keen to improve its accessibility and will invest in new equipment such as a disabled hoist and learner pool interactive equipment, to encourage those with disabilities and new parents to enjoy its pool.

Huish Episcopi Community Swimming Pool in Langport has been awarded £481k of National Lottery money. It will use the money to help enclose its Lido, ensuring the pool is suitable for use all year round, as well as to help it update its changing facilities.

Westlands Sport and Leisure Complex in Yeovil, South Somerset has been awarded £492k of National Lottery money. It will use the cash to help fund its major refurbishment, which will see its sports hall, squash courts, cricket and bowls pavilions all updated. A state-of-the art new health and fitness suite will also be created, and which will include a number of spacious exercise studios.

Sport England today awarded Coleford Leisure Centre (Gloucestershire) £500k of National Lottery funding to help towards the centre’s ambitious plans to refurbish its swimming pool, changing facilities, and gym area. Local children will also be impressed by its plan to create a new vertical playground and adventure activity centre.

Sport England today awarded £350,000 of National Lottery funding to the Manadon Football Development Centre in Plymouth.  The cash will help the centre refurbish its all-weather pitch, update its fencing and install new low energy floodlights, ensuring that the pitch is match ready all year round. New changing rooms and office spaces will be also created to provide the club with much needed additional space.  Youth sport also gets a boost with thanks to plans to upgrade the centre’s two grass pitches, which will enable competitive cricket and youth football to be played.

Sport England property director, Charles Johnston, said: “Thankfully as a nation we are becoming more active. Meeting this demand can be challenging, but thanks to National Lottery funding we can help organisations in South West  offer the kind of sporting experience that local people want.”

Sport England’s Improvement Fund, has invested over £49 million to date in 150 community-based projects across the country. From upgrading artificial grass pitches and swimming pool facilities to helping sports clubs become more environmentally sustainable, this funding has played a crucial role in improving the standards of community sport and incentivising more people to become active.
