Hinkley Point C announcement welcomed by EDDC leader

Councillor Paul Diviani, Leader of East Devon District Council, welcomed yesterday's news that EDF’s investment in the nuclear plant at  Hinkley Point C had been approved.

He said that the Council had been facilitating a series of information sessions at its East Devon Business Centre in Honiton over the last few months for local firms interested in the opportunities that the multi-billion-pound construction will bring.

He said: “This is good news in the long term for both our regional economy, as well as nationally, with the low carbon benefit of the clean energy that Hinkley C will produce.

“The South West has been underestimated, often overlooked too many times, and for far too long. The decision to go ahead with this project will play a key role in changing that perspective and provide a massive economic injection directly in to the arm of the South West’s future prosperity.

"Despite the recent Brexit vote, there is clearly sufficient confidence in the UK.”
