Young writers surpass expectations in Tickety-Boo competition

Ottery St Mary Primary School pupils proved they were talented wordsmiths in a writing competition organised by local coffee shop, Tickety-Boo.

The seasonally-themed competition attracted an impressive 63 entries from schoolchildren of all ages, from Foundation right up to Year 6.

Tickety-Boo’s head chef, Dave Goldthorpe, visited the school to give out certificates and prizes to the children who took part.

He said: “We asked for stories based around Bonfire Night, Tar Barrels or Halloween. It was a very difficult competition to judge – we weren’t expecting quite so many entries or such an amazingly high standard.

“Tickety-Boo owner Stuart Phillips and I gave equal consideration to every entry before deciding the winners and runners up in each year group.”

The winners received a free hot chocolate, snack and free play at Tickety-Boo’s popular play kingdom, runners up a hot drink and free play, whilst the many third placed entries won a free homemade cookie.
