Christmas dinner in the South West: Are the regions traditions evolving?
The Christmas dinner is one of the most anticipated meals of the year. Traditionally featuring a turkey and all the trimmings, along with a dessert, snacks and maybe a few drinks, it’s one of the country’s most satisfying eating experiences.
Of course, this is 2016 which has definitely not been a traditional year, and a new survey has discovered that the publics taste when it comes to Christmas dinners are more diverse than first thought!
In support of their guide to cooking the ultimate Christmas dinner, AO.com has carried out a survey to learn more about the regions habits when it comes to sitting down and eating on December 25th.
They found some interesting results!
- A non-alcoholic Christmas! Soft drinks tied with wine at 17.4% as the regions tipple of choice over the holiday season.
- 39.1% of people in the South West will not be eating turkey this Christmas!
- The average person in the South West spends £169 on food and drink during the Christmas period. That’s £10 lower than the UK average!
- There’s no place like the South West. Even if money were no object, 60.9% would still spend Christmas at home with the family
- 10.4% of the region would love to spend Christmas on a beach basking in the sun.
- Roast potatoes are a must for the region! 56.5% of those surveyed insisted these be included on their plate more than any other side.
- 34.8% of the region would consider a vegetarian alternative to their usual Christmas dinner this year.
- 2.6% of people in the South West don’t sit at the table to enjoy their Christmas dinner.
