Police are appealing for information following an armed robbery at Ernest Jones’ jewellers in Exeter this morning (11th February 2013).

The incident occurred at 9am at the store in the High Street.

It is believed three men in black clothing smashed the door, threatened staff with a hammer and stole boxes of Rolex watches.

Thieves ran off in the direction of John Lewis and got into a black Jaguar. Following an extensive search of the area, police located the vehicle in Sainsbury’s car park in Alphington.

During the incident one member of staff was injured by glass.

Detective Inspector Ben Deer, who is leading the investigation, told The Exeter Daily that officers were likely to be at the shop all day trying to retrieve evidence.

This break in follows hard on the heels of an incident last September, when thieves broke into the Exeter jewellery store in broad daylight.

A number of passers-by expressed their concerns for the staff and their shock that such a break in should happen in Exeter.

Anyone who witnessed this incident or who has any information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference 157 of 11/02/13, or alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
