Local women who want to ‘get on their bike’ and experience the social, physical and mental benefits of taking to two wheels can get involved in some free organised rides.

And with National Bike Week in full swing, this week represents the perfect opportunity to sign up.

The Breeze Bike Rides for Beginners rides offer a hassle free experience to women that are new to cycling or haven’t been on a bike in years. Rides are open to all ages.

They are organised by Teignbridge in partnership with the Breeze network and British Cycling. The accessible, inexpensive scheme is part of the council's work in empowering people to get active and look after their own wellbeing but also helps improve inclusivity and remove barriers so people can take part in events and activities.

Breeze is the biggest programme ever to get more women into riding bikes for fun. The aim is to help thousands more women feel confident and comfortable about going on a ride.

Each ride is led by a Breeze champion, a leader who is part of a network of more than 1,000 passionate and enthusiastic female volunteers help deliver the programme, organising hundreds of fun, free, Breeze bike rides throughout the country every week.

Cllr George Gribble, Teignbridge District Council's Deputy Leader and Executive member for Recreation and Leisure, said: "This is a great opportunity for women who enjoy riding a bike to get involved with an inspiring network. The rides are designed to be friendly, fun and easy for complete beginners to try it out. Helping people access healthy activities is a key part of our agenda and this is a good example of where we can work with others to help people in our communities enjoy healthy, social initiatives.”
