Police launch murder enquiry following death of Devonport man

Detectives from the major crime investigation team have launched a murder investigation after a 76-year-old man was found dead at a flat in Devonport.

Police were called to an address in Granby Way, Devonport, at approximately 12.10pm on Thursday 7th February 2013, after there was concern for the welfare of a local resident.

On police arrival the male resident appeared deceased inside a flat within Marlborough House. Ambulance staff attended and paramedics pronounced the man deceased at the scene.

The man, aged 76, has been named as Michael Brincat of Marlborough House on Granby Way, Devonport.

The results of the forensic post mortem concluded that the cause of death was suspicious.

The murder investigation will now attempt to understand the exact circumstances leading to the death of Michael Brincat.

Detective Superintendent Paul Burgan, leading the investigation said: “This is likely to be a very challenging investigation. A team of detectives have now begun making detailed and extensive enquiries.
