Fairport Convention coming to the Exeter Corn Exchange
Fairport Convention, the band credited with inventing folk-rock, will appear at Exeter Corn Exchange on Friday 8th March.
Fairport were formed in 1967 and previous and past members read like a who’s who of British folk music with names such as Richard Thompson, Sandy Denny, Dave Swarbrick and Ashley Hutchings all having been part of the band.
The present line-up includes original band member Simon Nicol on guitar and lead vocals. Dave Pegg, who has been part of the band for 34 unbroken years, is on bass and backing vocals and Ric Saunders who joined the band in 1985 plays violin. Chris Leslie (fiddle, mandolin, bouzouki and lead vocals) has been with the band since 1996 and Gerry Conway on drums and percussion is the new boy having been with Fairport a mere 15 years!
Fairport Convention really are one of the most entertaining bands on the live music scene and their Corn Exchange show starts at 7.30pm with support from the amazing Jake Thackray showcasing the music and comedy of the great Jake Thackray.
