Exeter Police appeal for witnesses after violent mugging

Update: A 28 year old man arrested in connection with this incident has been released on police bail until 16th April pending further enquiries. 

Yesterday: A 28-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of robbery following a mugging earlier, when a woman was punched in the head and then had her mobile phone stolen. 

First published: Exeter Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman was punched in the head during a robbery at the rear of the Southgate Hotel at about 12.20pm today (Thursday 14 February 2013).

According to a police spokesperson: "A woman was walking along a footpath when she was approached by a man who punched her in the head and stole her mobile phone. Although her injuries are not serious, she has been taken to the RD&E.

"The suspect is described as being a white man in his thirties, wearing a denim jacket and blue hoody."
