Armed Forces Day in Exeter
Exeter celebrates Armed Forces Day on Saturday (17 June) with a parade through the city centre and a military village on the Cathedral Green.
Armed Forces Day is a chance to show support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community; from currently serving troops to Service families, veterans and cadets.
Saturday’s military parade sets off from Sidwell Street at 11am, with serving military personnel, veterans and cadets marching down the High Street.
The parade will be lead by The Band of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines. When the parade reaches the Guildhall, the Lord Mayor, Cllr Lesley Robson will take the salute alongside the Deputy Lieutenant of Devon, Sir Mark Stanhope, and the Commanding Officer of HMS Defender, Richard Hewitt. The troops will then head to the Cathedral Green for an inspection.
At 11:40am The Band of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines will play outside the Cathedral.
There will be various activities and displays on the Cathedral Green as part of the military village, including a climbing wall, recruitment stalls and military vehicles.
Lord Mayor, Cllr Lesley Robson, said: “This is a great honour for me and a fantastic opportunity for the people of Exeter to show their appreciation for the armed forces and the wonderful job that they do.”
