Investigative works underway at former St Margaret’s School to preserve Grade II listed buildings
Sustainable property developer, Grenadier Estates, is set to commence investigative works at St Margaret’s, a former listed school in Exeter, which will create more than 40 luxury homes in the heart of the St Leonards’ Community.
The essential works will be the first stage in the development of the site on Magdalen Road, and Grenadier Estates will be erecting scaffolding to the exterior of all existing buildings to allow for the safe removal of damaged roof tiles, as well as concrete render, which can significantly damage the exterior walls.
“The investigative work will allow our team and contractors to conduct a complete study of the site and understand the repair required before the full and sensitive development of the site begins. As well as this, we feel this is a responsible approach to the project as the work will ensure we can preserve the special nature of the Grade II and Grade II* listed building, which is of the utmost importance,” says Peter Quincey, Grenadier’s Director.
Peter continues: “We consider this project to be ground breaking in creating the most energy efficient redevelopment of historic buildings in the country. The historic development will be built to exceed the environmental standards of new houses but we also undertake our own rigorous tests that are above and beyond standard building regulations to guarantee each of our developments are of the highest quality. We aim to reduce the operational carbon footprint by 86% and be the first developer to deliver the highest grade energy efficiency ratings on a historic property.”
