Rainbow Living Trustee receives MBE from HRH Prince Charles
Rainbow Living’s Treasurer Ruth Airdrie has attended Buckingham Palace for her MBE investiture ceremony.
Ruth was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the Queen’s Birthday 2017 Honours list, in recognition of the voluntary work she has undertaken for Rainbow Living over the last 11 years.
Ruth visited the palace with her husband John and daughter Sarah for the investiture ceremony. The MBE was presented by HRH Prince Charles.
An MBE is awarded by the Queen and is given to those who have made an outstanding achievement or service to the community, which will have a long-term significant impact and stand out as an example to others. Ruth was one of the group of people who founded Rainbow Living and she has been instrumental in developing and shaping the charity’s unique housing model which supports adults with learning disability.
Ruth said: “It was a real honour to be invited to Buckingham Palace and to receive this award. The whole day was very exciting and slightly unreal – it’s not every day you get invited to Buckingham Palace and get to meet the future King!
“To receive such a high accolade for something I feel so passionate about is very humbling and I would like to thank everyone who has supported me and Rainbow Living – it really is a privilege to have the charity’s work recognised in this way.”
