Enjoy free cream tea at historic mill thanks to National Lottery!
One of Exeter’s historic attractions is opening its doors to visitors for free tours and cream teas.
Cricklepit Mill is the venue for the event which takes place between 10am and 12 noon on Friday 15 December. The historic watermill is home to the charity Devon Wildlife Trust and is located on Commercial Road close to the city’s Quay.
Visitors will get the chance to see the mill’s two waterwheels turning, while its team of volunteers will be on hand using traditional water-power to demonstrate the milling of grain into flour. Tours telling the story of Cricklepit Mill will also be available, while visitors can also take advantage of an offer of a free cream tea.
The special event is being staged to celebrate the contribution of the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) to the recent history of Exeter’s only remaining working watermill.
Devon Wildlife Trust’s Steve Hussey said: “Support from the Heritage Lottery Fund helped us open Cricklepit Mill to the public after we moved here in 2007. It provided the present visitor facilities which tell the story of this old mill and its present conversion to being our charity’s headquarters.”
“The event will be an ideal opportunity for people to discover more about this corner of Exeter’s past and to enjoy a free cream tea!”
Devon Wildlife Trust’s Cricklepit Mill is joining hundreds of other National Lottery funded visitor attractions across the UK in saying ‘thanks’ to people who have raised money for good causes by buying a lottery ticket.
Ros Kerslake, Chief Executive of the Heritage Lottery Fund, said: “December is a wonderful time to experience the UK’s rich, diverse and exciting heritage, which has been transformed by more than £7bn National Lottery funding since 1994. This is a small gesture of thanks and a way of giving something back to the people who buy tickets.”
