RMT says SW Trains/Network Rail delivering some of the highest fares and worst services

Bob Crow , RMT General Secretary following major signal failure on SW Trains/Network Rail alliance out of Waterloo last night, said; "This latest infrastructure failure on main routes out of London follows a spate of similar signal, overhead line and track breakdowns which have caused chaos in recent weeks and which RMT believes are linked to massive cuts of 20% in maintenance budgets and staffing.

"The SW Trains/Network Rail alliance is supposed to be the McNulty model for the future and yet it is delivering some of the highest fares for some of the worst services and has been an unmitigated disaster for passengers and staff alike.

"Passengers are now paying higher fares to travel on a rail system constantly on the brink of breakdown because corners are cut due to financial pressures as we saw yet again at Waterloo last night. The maintenance cuts on Britain's railways must be reversed now."
