Singin' in the Rain

BSO: Triumph and Passion
Friday, The Great Hall, University of Exeter
An evening of fantastic romantic melodies begins with the lyrical Adagio from Spartacus, used in many a love scene and famously in The Onedin Line, before moving on to the Piano Concerto with its much-loved soulful slow movement. The Simmertones

The Simmertones are a Torbay based band playing authentic Ska and Reggae, with a very busy year of gigs behind them including Camp Bestival, Looe Festival ,Glas-Denbury and Love summer festival they are returning to Exeter Phoenix for a third year hoping to delight a packed house again. Christine Tobin
Sunday, 8pm, Exeter Phoenix 
An integral part of the UK music scene for many years, Christine Tobin is renowned for her unique rich voice and original compositional style. In 2018 she is touring her critically acclaimed album Pelt. Pelt is Christine’s settings of poems and lyrics by contemporary Pulitzer Prize winning poet, Paul Muldoon. Meet crime writer Diane Janes
Saturday, 12.30pm, WH Smith, Guildhall Shopping Centre, Exeter
When a crime from the 1930s remained unsolved, author Diane Janes took it upon herself to find justice for 28 year old Evelyn Foster. Honiton-based Diane will be signing copies of Death at Wolf's Nick at WHSmith Exeter at 12.30pm.  Go along and find out how she deduced the identity of Evelyn's murderer.

RSPB Avocet Dawn Cruise
Saturday, Exe Estuary
A morning cruise that lasts around 1.5 hours. Throughout the cruise expert commentary is provided by knowledgeable RSPB volunteers who will keep a close eye out and help you spot the various species of waders and wildfowl that either flock to the Exe to overwinter or call the Exe their home. 7.45am departure. A good mix of food stalls, antiques, clothes, jewellery and craft stalls.  This market takes place every Saturday from 8.30am-1pm.

EXHIBITIONS

Dartmoor: A Wild and Wondorous Region
RAMM, Queen Street, Exeter
Dartmoor has inspired generations of artists. This exhibition traces the story of Dartmoor, once described as a ‘dreary mountainous tract’ and later as the epitome of the picturesque. The artists in the exhibition have depicted the moor using a wide range of media including oil paintings, watercolours, engravings and early photographs. Works from RAMM’s collections are displayed alongside loans from British museums and galleries as well as rarely seen works from private collections. The exhibition runs until 1 April.

South West Academy Exhibition
From Saturday, Thelma Hulbert Gallery, Dowell Street, Honiton
An exhibition of work by members of the South West Academy of Fine and Applied Arts.   A new body of work will include paintings, sculpture, prints and ceramics. All of the work on display will be for sale. A catalogue to accompany the exhibition will be available at the gallery. The exhibition runs until 24 February.
