NDDH opens doors to public for National Operating Department Practitioner Day
Members of the public are invited to come and see what it’s like to work in a hospital operating theatre during an open day at North Devon District Hospital (NDDH) on National Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) Day.
On Monday 14 May, the simulation suite at NDDH will be open to the public from 10am-3pm. There will be an anaesthetic room, theatre and recovery area set up in the sim suite, and visitors will be shown a typical patient journey through these areas.
Visitors will get to see some of the day-to-day activities of an ODP and there will also be skills stations where they can have a go at some basic tasks on the sim suite manikins.
Andy Robinson, perioperative clinical educator, said: “ODPs are a vital part of the theatres team, and through this day we are aiming to raise awareness of the entry routes into this exciting profession.
“Come along and see what it’s like to work in a hospital operating theatre, and speak to staff about their work and how they started their career. Whether you’re still at school, are wanting a career change or just want to see if this could be the job for you, come along and see if a career in theatres could be the future for you.”
The Clinical Simulation Suite is in the Medical Education Centre (MEC), level 1, NDDH.
