Kerbside collection service will make your life ‘mulch’ easier!

Summer is beckoning and so are those jobs in your garden - so why not sign up to East Devon’s fortnightly green waste collection service and save yourself the journey to your local recycling centre.

More than 6,000 district council households have already subscribed to the new kerbside collections which will make life so much easier for our green fingered residents to dispose of their green waste.

The new service starts next week (May 14), but residents can sign up at any time of the year for a full annual collection. The service costs £48 a year – each fortnightly collection costing less than £2 a time – and includes an introductory offer of a free 240 litre green wheeled bin. Normally the bins would cost an extra £20 to buy up front.

And what’s collected in East Devon, stays in East Devon as the green waste will be taken to Coastal Organics at Hill Barton Business Park in Clyst St Mary and turned in to high quality compost. The environment benefits in so many ways by using this new service. Residents won’t need to use fuel to travel to their local recycling centre and the resulting compost from their green waste will be used on East Devon farms to improve the soil.

East Devon residents have been asking for a reliable service such as this for a while now and many councils across the country successfully operate a chargeable system.  The service is not being subsidised by the council tax payer.
