Overnight closures planned on Cumberland Way in Exeter
Overnight closures will be needed on Cumberland Way next week as work continues on the new cycle route.
The road will be closed between 6:30pm and 6am each evening from Monday 21 May to Friday 25 May to enable the road to be resurfaced, traffic counters to be installed and road markings to be painted.
Cumberland Way will be closed between Pinhoe Road / Main Road / Cumberland Way junction (to the north) and the Tithebarn Way roundabout (to the south).
A diversion route will be signed via Pinhoe Road, Hill Barton Road, Rydon Lane, A379, Sidmouth Road, Moor Lane, Ambassador Drive and vice versa.
Work will need to be carried out on the sections of road at either end of the closure, but these sections will remain open with temporary lights in place.
During the hours of the overnight closure, temporary three-way traffic signals will be in place at the Pinhoe Road / Main Road / Venny Bridge junction while resurfacing work is carried out on Pinhoe Road.
There will also be temporary two-way traffic lights on Cumberland Way, between the Tithebarn Way roundabout (to the north) and Hollow Lane (to the south) for the installation of the new road markings on Cumberland Way.
The E4 cycle route, which is due to open later this summer, will be Devon’s first two-way cycle path. It will form part of a strategic cycle route connecting new developments on the east of Exeter to the university and the city centre.
