Silhouettes appear across Exeter to mark First World War centenary
A number of striking Silhouettes have appeared around Exeter to mark the centenary of the end of the First World War.
Exeter City Council is backing The Royal British Legion initiative and has displayed the Silhouettes outside the Guildhall and the Civic Centre, as well as on the Paris Street roundabout coming into the city centre.
The Royal British Legion is leading a national movement to say ‘Thank You’ to the First World War generation. As part of this year’s centenary activities the Legion has launched a range of Silhouettes to encourage businesses, community groups and individuals to join the charity in showing their gratitude. It is not just the British Armed Forces who are being recognised but all those who served alongside them as well as the countless men, women and children who also played their part on the home front.
Claudia Kelly (pictured left), The Royal British Legion’s Community Fundraiser for Devon North, said: “Everyone has a reason to say ‘thank you’ as we all have a connection to the First World War. We are encouraging businesses, community groups and individuals to get involved by displaying a Silhouette in their place of work, community or home. I would like to thank Exeter City Council for supporting The Royal British Legion in helping to say ‘thank you’”
Cllr Emma Morse (pictured right), Exeter City’s Armed Forces Champion, said: “We’re delighted to be supporting this initiative and displaying four of these striking Silhouettes outside the Civic Centre and throughout the city. The Silhouettes are already turning heads around Exeter and act as a perfect reminder to the sacrifices of the First World War generation.”
