Exeter’s Lloyds Lounge among Michelmores Property Awards winners

The winners of the 16th annual Michelmores Property Awards have been announced with Lloyd’s Lounge in Exeter, Princesshay Shopping Centre’s first independent bar, the winner of Project of the Year (under £5m). 

Mike Leece, awards judge and former CEO of Devonport Management Limited, commented: "Lloyd’s Lounge demonstrates an innovative and contemporary design that has transformed a run-down area into a clean inviting space that is befitting of such a centralised location. A well-deserved winner, whose owner's passion drove a tricky project forward against numerous challenges to the benefit of Exeter."

The awards celebrate outstanding property and construction projects across the South West and recognises commercial and residential projects within the region.

Tate St Ives, Cornwall, was awarded Building of the Year after undergoing a complete refurbishment. It reopened to the public in October 2017 and now accommodates a quarter of a million visitors each year.

Further wins included Education Project of the Year for the development of Callywith College, Cornwall, Alternative Property Investment Project of the Year for the Nelson Project in Plymouth, Aerospace Bristol for Leisure and Hospitality Project of the Year, and Project of the Year for the National College for Nuclear in Cannington, Somerset.

The John Laurence Special Contribution Award, which spotlights outstanding property and construction professionals in the region, was awarded to Plymouth-based Ian Potts of Architects Design Group for his significant contribution to the property landscape of the South West.

The ceremony took place at the University of Exeter and was hosted by comedian and actor Josh Widdecombe.
