Teignmouth's landmark former Beachcomber café and restaurant available for rent
Teignbridge District Council is inviting expressions of interest for the former Beachcomber café and restaurant premises on the seafront at Teignmouth.
The 1,819 sq ft building is in a prominent location on Teignmouth seafront, close to the Green Flag-accredited Den with its children’s play areas, Seaside award-winning beach, Teignmouth Pier and Pavilions Teignmouth. It also comes with an option to lease an outdoor seating area on the promenade.
The building, owned by Teignbridge, has been closed since a fire in July 2017. On 20 March 2018 Teignbridge’s planning committee unanimously granted permission for building upgrade works to take place. The works to renew the windows and external cladding to modernise and improve the property’s external appearance will begin shortly. It will mean the building remains closed but when it does open, it will have a much more modern and improved look and feel.
The property will be let as a shell, so the successful bidder can complete the internal fit-out to their own design, although it already benefits from plumbing for: kitchen sinks, appliances, toilets and a serving area suitable for takeaways.
Expressions of interest for the former Beachcomber building are invited for submission to Teignbridge no later than noon on 7 September 2018.
Cllr Tim Golder, Teignbridge District Council’s Executive Portfolio Holder for Economy, Skills and Tourism, said:
“This is an exciting business opportunity in a wonderful location in a very popular seaside town. Securing an operator to run a commercially viable, sustainable and vibrant business that delivers economic and social benefits for the community continues to form part of Teignbridge’s key business objectives.”
Cllr Sylvia Russell, ward member for Teignmouth East and Executive Portfolio Holder for Health and Wellbeing, said:
"The news that the building will rise from the ashes is very good news for Teignmouth and we all look forward to seeing this popular café back in business. I would also like to thank the outgoing tenants for maintaining the high standards and excellent reputation of The Beachcomber and wish them well in the future."
Teignbridge has a proven record of supporting local businesses – more recently it helped transform former council owned toilet blocks into new seaside businesses at Holcombe and Dawlish Warren – and as part of its ten year strategy Teignbridge remains committed to investing in prosperity, encouraging new business and enable existing ones to grow.
