Darren Everett appointed Director of Golf at Exeter Golf and Country Club
Exeter Golf and Country Club’s Head Golf Professional has been appointed Director of Golf to amalgamate the administration, management and commercial aspects of the facility and membership.
Darren Everett, who has been the Golf Professional at Exeter Golf and Country Club since May 2016, will take over the responsibilities of Golf Manager, from Ben Martin on 4th August. After three years as Golf Manager and a previous three working in the Pro Shop, Ben is due to start his new role as the South West Regional Manager for England Golf.
The creation of the new role of Director of Golf marks a pivotal time for golf at the club. For the first time in decades, Exeter Golf and Country Club has a waiting list for men’s golf membership and is due to open the new Topsham Golf Practice Facility later this year. Darren’s new position as Director of Golf will incorporate membership, competitions, visitors, retail, coaching, events and development, across the dual sites at both the club and the new practice facility.
Darren Everett said, “I am delighted to be the new Director of Golf at Exeter Golf and Country Club. My first two years here have been successful, and I am pleased that my team and I have had such a positive impact on the golf experience of this prestigious club. 2018 is an exciting year with the new practice facility on the horizon and our golf membership being so popular. Exeter Golf and Country Club is one of the leading golf clubs with their well-recognised progressive approach to ensuring golf is the sport of choice for men and women in the future. I am honoured to be a part of this.”
Darren’s priority is to ensure the experience of being a golf member at Exeter Golf and Country Club is as enjoyable as possible, along every touch-point. With a team of golf professionals alongside him – a team which is set to grow ready for the additional responsibilities – Darren will work closely with the management team at the club, the golf captains and the golf committees.
He is all too aware that the ‘Darren Everett’ brand is much more than just one man and he promises visibility from his team with 7 day a week accessibility in the Pro Shop or the Golf Office. Having enjoyed success in a Director of Golf role at Teign Valley Golf Club, and supported Ben during his three years at Exeter, Darren’s experience ensures he is ready for this new challenge.
Darren continued, “As a PGA Advanced Professional, Devon PGA Captain and Devon PGA Vice Chairman, I have a thorough understanding of how to ensure golf at Exeter Golf and Country Club remains at the top of the game regionally. From working at grass-roots level with juniors and beginners, I recognise the importance of progression for the future. Golf is a changing sport, culturally and demographically, and it is vital we shape our golf in a way which embraces this, whilst continuing to celebrate the positive traditions that make the sport so special. I wish Ben all the very best for his future role and look forward to continuing to work with him from a wider point of view.”
With Ben’s move to represent England Golf across the South West, Darren is hopeful of a closer partnership with the organisation on a regional and national basis, with a buoyant relationship already flourishing on social media.
Chris Jones, General Manager of Exeter Golf and Country Club said, “Darren was the number one choice for taking over the Golf Manager responsibilities. He has the full support of the management team who will assist him and the other golf pros in those areas which are new to them. We are confident he is the right man for the job!”
