Eversfield Organic named finalist in Shop of the Year 2019
The Guild of Fine Food’s annual Shop of the Year awards, an accreditation scheme which recognises and promotes excellence in independent retail, has announced its finalists for 2019 and Eversfield Organic’s Tavistock farm shop and deli is among those in the running to win the Delicatessen & Grocer category. Having had its written entry reviewed by a panel of respected industry experts, Eversfield Organic’s farm shop and deli will now undergo two further rounds of judging, including an announced visit from one of the judges and a mystery shop.
From the overall shopping experience and financial performance to staff training opportunities and environmental initiatives, the panel of highly experienced judges, which includes Edward Berry of The Flying Fork, Stuart Gates, former managing director at Fortnum & Mason and senior buyer at Harrods, award-winning retailer Tracey Colley and food writer, Patrick McGuigan will rate, score and provide feedback on every aspect of the Tavistock shop before agreeing on an overall category winner.
Commenting on inclusion in the Shop of the Year’s shortlist, Anna Elliot, sales and marketing director at Eversfield Organic says: “We are absolutely thrilled our farm shop and deli has been shortlisted in the Guild of Fine Food’s Shop of the Year competition, especially considering we opened our doors to our first customers less than four months ago. It’s a huge mark of recognition for our shop, which has been so warmly received by the people of Tavistock and further afield, as well as for our dedicated team. We’re delighted our commitment and enthusiasm for sourcing food and drink ethically, sustainably and with great consideration for the environment has been recognised and can’t wait to hear the final result on the 11th March.”
Opened last October, Eversfield Organic’s farm shop and deli provides a one-stop shop of locally and sustainably produced food and drink. All of the produce on offer at the family run shop is certified organic, bar fish and game where sources of wild produce is preferable. Located at 2 West Street, in the centre of Tavistock, the shop boasts a butchery counter showcasing Eversfield’s multi-award-winning range of organic fresh and cured meats, seasonal fruit and vegetables, Baker Tom’s breads including sourdough and spelt loaves, a wonderful selection of organic cheeses, both regional and international, plus olives and charcuterie and a carefully curated selection of larder staples, such as organic oils, pasta and rice.
The recently opened shop has also become famous around Tavistock for their homemade soup using vegetables which would otherwise go to waste, freshly prepared salads and sandwiches, its coffee bar serving Owens organic coffee and its fabulous wine cave - one of the few places in the West Country offering 100% organic wines.
The Guild of Fine Food’s Shop of the Year 2019 will reach its exciting finale on Monday 11th March, with the world of fine food gathering at Fodder Farm Shop and Café in Harrogate, to hear the winners of each category announced.
