Residents and staff at Millbrook Village, the later living community in Exeter, are celebrating as it has been recognised for its contribution to retirement living at the Regional Housing for Older People Awards 2019. Inspired Villages, the operator of Millbrook Village which is backed by financial institution Legal & General, has announced its Exeter site has picked up the Bronze award in the category of ‘Retirement Housing of 53 units and over’, for the excellent services and facilities it provides to its residents. The retirement scheme offers community, wellness and a number of housing options to those over the age of 55, including apartments and cottages and a Hospitality service which offers residents assistance with managing their home and dining.

The annual awards, run by the Elderly Accommodation Counsel (EAC), celebrate the best specialist housing for older people and aim to help shape the future of housing for later life through engaging those within the sector. Millbrook Village is one of only 300, out of the UK’s 25,000 retirement housing schemes, to win a top regional prize in the 8th annual awards. Over 19,000 residents, staff, visitors and volunteers voted for their favourite scheme out of the 1,220 nominated between 15 November 2018 and 28 February 2019.

Out of the 300 schemes to win a regional award, Millbrook Village is also one of 27 schemes to be shortlisted for a national award, which will be announced at the EAC’s national awards ceremony in Manchester on 21 May 2019.

David Nairn, Village Manager at Millbrook Village, comments: “We are proud to have won this award as it means that our staff, residents and visitors are really happy with our homes and are enjoying the community and social activities available. The award reflects all the great options available to our residents at Millbrook and the hard work our staff have put in to deliver this.”

As well as offering apartments and cottages for sale for independent living, - with fixed service charges that include utility costs - Inspired Villages has also introduced a Hospitality package to help its residents remain independent in their home for as long as possible. Specific Hospitality apartments include a cleaning service, meal provision and light shopping for those looking for the benefits of living within a supportive community but with the freedom, privacy and independence of having their own apartment.

John Galvin, EAC’s Chief Executive, comments about the awards: "Specialist housing for older people plays an enormously significant role in helping them stay independent for longer. The security, support and great communities have a positive impact on individuals and reduce the need for NHS services.”

Millbrook Village offers 164 retirement properties in an idyllic position on the upper banks of the River Exe and close to Exeter city centre. The village comprises a mixture of two and three bedroom cottages and two and three bedroom apartments that are all finished to the highest standard, with spacious rooms, stylish fixtures and fittings, and a private terrace or balcony. All of the homes have the option of the Hospitality package, which is charged at an additional cost.

The community at Millbrook Village offers a wealth of social activities and resident-run clubs and has a central clubhouse with a range of health and leisure facilities within walking distance of all of the homes.  Springbok Hall boasts country club-style amenities including a restaurant, bar, lounge, gym, swimming pool, library, snooker room and activity rooms as well as a cinema and a medical centre with a visiting doctor. The village has a dedicated Wellbeing Navigator who helps residents achieve their fitness and health goals.

Prices at Millbrook Village start from £339,950 for a two bedroom apartment and from £390,000 for a two bedroom cottage. Inspired Villages is currently offering to pay the stamp duty on homes purchased before 31 March 2019 up to the value of £500,000.

Purchasers are able to make use of the Inspired Move service, a package of services designed to relieve the stress or pressures of a downsizing move, including an assisted move and part-exchange initiative, recommended solicitors, help with decluttering and with settling in to the new home, an interior design service and a discount offer for a recommended removal service.
