CARERS in south Devon are next month (May 2019) being offered free advice on respite relief by a care provider in the area.

Guardian Homecare, which has offices and teams in Exeter, is hosting a Respite Care Awareness Week from Monday, May 13 and will be advising people on the topic.

Regional Manager, Katie Jewell said: “Lots of people who care for friends or family members aren’t aware of the respite relief they can benefit from. They deserve a well-earned rest as looking after someone can often become physically and emotionally overwhelming.

“We are inviting carers to call us on 01392 537090 to get some free advice on the different ways they can look after themselves and give themselves a break.

“We can also let people know about our respite relief services. As well as domiciliary and live-in care, we can also provide social care workers to individuals or families who require it on a temporary basis.”

Guardian Homecare delivers personalised home care supporting people wishing to stay living safely and comfortably in their own homes in south Devon.

Katie added: “Our team of experts will be standing by during Respite Care Awareness Week ready to answer any questions that people call in with. We hope the week will be very informative for anyone that is a carer themselves.”

The Respite Care Awareness Week will take place from Monday, May 13 until Friday, May 17. Anyone wishing to find out more, should call Guardian Homecare on 01392 537090.

Guardian Homecare currently employs 140 carers and is searching for more honest and kind-hearted individuals to help add to its teams in the county.

It says, despite the current culture of change in the fast-paced world of employment, care gives people the chance to create a worthwhile career for themselves that has longevity and security. If people are looking for a job for life with training and career advancement opportunities, then it is one of the few sectors that can offer this, says Guardian Homecare.

“We have care worker vacancies, including live-in positions, available today for people looking for a career change in south Devon, particularly in Exeter, and the surrounding areas.

“Being a carer is a very rewarding job and gives people the opportunity to carve a career for themselves.

“Every successful applicant receives full training, which includes a company induction, first aid, information on dementia, health and safety, food safety, infection control, handling medication and moving and handling service users.

“We also offer the chance to gain qualifications and career progression to all our team members who show commitment, reliability and passion for their role. We provide a great support network for all of our carers too.

“Being reliable is essential for anyone wishing to become a carer, as we look after the needs of vulnerable adults. Applicants also need to be even tempered and caring and must enjoy making a positive difference to people’s lives.

“Being patient, able to cope with change and having the ability to display empathy and warmth are also vital in our work.”

Anyone interested in a position should call Guardian Homecare on 01803 853198 to request an application pack or drop in at its Broadclyst office in Exeter, in May during normal office hours for an informal chat.

The Respite Care Awareness Week will take place from Monday, May 13 until Friday, May 17.
