Neil Parish MP congratulates local farm on winning Rural Oscar
Tiverton and Honiton MP Neil Parish has congratulated the owners of Pipers Farm on winning an award at the Countryside Alliance Awards held in Parliament on the 12 March.
Also known as the Rural Oscars these awards celebrate and acknowledge those rural businesses which contribute so much to food production, environmental stewardship and protecting our rural heritage.
The Greig family of Pipers Farm near Cullompton won the top award and were crowned UK and Ireland Champions by the Rt Hon Owen Paterson MP, the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. Afterwards they met their local MP Neil Parish and were given a tour of the Houses of Parliament.
The Parliamentary reception was attended by Regional Champions from across the UK & Ireland, keen to celebrate rural business and produce. The UK & Ireland Champions were selected by a UK & Ireland judging panel at a lunch in February.
Commenting on the Award Neil Parish, who is also a member of the environment, Food and Rural Affairs Select Committee, said: “I am delighted Peter and Henri Greig have won this award. At Pipers Farm they hand rear Devon Red Ruby Cattle, Saddleback Pigs, Suffolk Lambs and chickens. All their meat is hand reared on their 50 acre farm and slaughtered at a local abattoir only a few miles away.
"Pipers Farm have been campaigning responsibility sourced, non-industrialised farming for 20 years and I am pleased that their work championing West Country products has been recognised.”
