Are you registered to vote in the General Election?

With a General Election approaching on Thursday 12 December, East Devon residents are being reminded to ensure they are registered to vote in this important poll.

In order to vote, residents must be on the electoral register and East Devon District Council is urging residents not currently registered at their address to make sure that they register in time.

The deadline to register to vote is midnight on Tuesday 26 November and you can register online at https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote - It takes just five minutes. You will need your date of birth and National Insurance number to hand.

Poll cards will be sent out in mid-November and if you don’t receive one you may not be on the electoral register so please contact us to check.

Mark Williams, Acting Returning Officer for the East Devon constituency, said: “If you have recently turned 18 or moved home, it is particularly important that you act to ensure that you are registered to vote. It takes just a few minutes online and means that you can take part in this important election.”

If you’re away on polling day or unable to vote in person, you can apply to vote by post or by proxy.

The deadline for postal vote applications is 5pm on Tuesday 26 November. The last day to apply for a proxy vote is 5pm on Wednesday 4 December. To request a postal or proxy vote please contact Electoral Services on 01395 571529 or email electoralservices@eastdevon.gov.uk
