Event showcases tech to help people live independently at home

Some of the latest innovations to help people live independently in their own homes will be showcased at a special event in Exeter this week (w/c 25 November).

Devon County Council and its NHS partners, in partnership with HFT (a national charity supporting adults with learning disabilities), is inviting people to the “Smarthouse” event in Exeter tomorrow (Tuesday 26 November), Wednesday 27 November and Thursday 28 November.

The Smarthouse is an interactive flat which uses technology that can provide care and support to enable people to live safely at home.

Members of the public, care providers and social workers are invited to see technology, ranging from basic aids to help people with limited mobility, through to more complex gadgets such as a talking microwave, taps that turn themselves off, and sensors around the house that are triggered by a fall and indicate that a person needs support.

Tours of the Smarthouse start from 10am and take approximately 30 minutes. The tours are led by HFT’s Personalised Technology Team, who have a wealth of experience in assessing, installing and supporting the use of technology.

As well as the tour, there will also be an opportunity to try out some of the technology and experts will be on hand to answer any questions.
