Guildhall shines a light on NSPCC campaign
Exeter Guildhall is to be turned green tonight as the City Council shines a light on the NSPCC’s ‘Light for Every Childhood’ Christmas campaign.
The campaign is raising awareness of the nature and scale of abuse and neglect, shining a light on those children for whom Christmas may not be such a joyful time.
The Lord Mayor of Exeter, Cllr Peter Holland, said: “We’re delighted to be supporting this initiative and shining a light on the NSPCC’s campaign and all the good work they do for children.”
Community Fundraising Manager for the NSPCC in Cornwall and Devon, Alison Armer, added: “We are absolutely thrilled that Exeter Guildhall will be glowing green on Tuesday and very grateful to the support the council has provided to this important campaign that will raise awareness of those children who may be going through the toughest of times.”
The landmark building is set to provide a visionary delight for passers-by, as the charity’s ‘Light For Every Childhood’ Christmas Appeal shines a light on children needing help this December.
Childline volunteers are preparing to help thousands of young people across the festive period – day and night.
Children across the city have access to the charity’s free Childline service. Specially-trained Childline counsellors speak to children and young people in their darkest hours every day of the year, even on Christmas Day, and £20 would help answer five calls to the Childline service. It’s a service that is promoted by the charity’s Schools Service team who offer free safeguarding assemblies to every primary school to help empower a generation.
Alison added: “Just £3 helps the charity deliver its Speak Out Stay Safe programme teach a primary school pupil how to recognise abuse and get help.
“A donation of £90 will provide a special assembly to 30 primary school pupils, and £580 will help reach a whole school of children.”
In the last academic year, across the county of Devon a total of 22,524 children were reached by the programme, with deliveries at 122 primary schools.
