Devon Community Foundation has awarded a grant from the community fund to The Nest Southwest CIC to provide ongoing support and information to birthing families in the Exeter, Exmouth and surrounding areas. The grant will be used to continue their work holding weekly Pregnancy Well-being Sessions online to support pregnant women and their partners stuck in self-isolation at home during the pandemic.

Hazel Acland, a co-director of The Nest Southwest said ‘This grant will make a huge difference to people living in the local area and couldn’t have come at a better time. Social isolation is our current reality and means that many antenatal classes have all been cancelled, but you can’t put your pregnancy on hold. We have to keep going. Feeling lonely and not knowing where to turn can have a real negative impact on mental health. Our online group is open to all birthing women and their partners. Our aim is to increase well-being and resilient mental health in pregnancy and prepare for a positive birth and postpartum experience. Even when the lockdown has been lifted, we will continue to support, and provide information to disadvantaged and isolated families. Thank you Devon Community Foundation!

Martha Wilkinson, CEO of DCF added “We are delighted to be able to support this fantastic group. It is groups like this working on the frontline that are so essential to our communities. It’s what makes DCF so important to ensure that together with donors and local groups we can build strong and vibrant communities for everyone in Devon, both now and for the future.”
