Exeter church in partnership to distribute food to those in need across Devon
A church in Exeter has developed an exciting partnership to help distribute food to people in need across the area at this time.
Rediscover Church in Northernhay Street, Exeter, is working with FareShare which has an operation in Bristol, and is a charity which works with supermarkets across the region to help provide food to people who might have difficulties accessing it and those with financial difficulties at this time.
The team at Rediscover Church have been transporting food to Devon, which in turn has been packaged into hampers and delivered to a range of people across the local area, including families whose situations have been impacted due to the coronavirus pandemic.
These food hampers contain a nice range of essential foods and treats to which have been a lifeline for many. So far around 9 tonnes of food has been collected and packaged up to help people in this way.
The church will also be working alongside and developing relationships with other local charities and organisations in the area to ensure that food gets to the people who need it most.
The operation has involved many people from the church being involved with some giving financially and over 60 volunteers of all ages coming together to help unload lorries, package the hampers and distribute them. (all following the government guidelines on social distancing)
Nige Williams is the Associate Pastor at Rediscover Church and said, “It has been a privilege to partner with Fareshare as we endeavour to see the end of Hunger Poverty. Being a community focussed church , we are passionate about ‘Reaching Out’ across the county of Devon and providing positive solutions to areas of need , We believe through offering solution based programs we can create ‘Hope for a new tomorrow”
The church are always open to working with other local businesses and shops in the area to help provide food and other essentials to people who need it at this critical time.
Individuals are asked to contact the church if they wish to begin such conversations about possible relationships being established.
They also wish to thank FareShare for their continuous support and resource through this period of national crisis, where individuals are so thankful to have this food in at this time of unrest and change.
