Topsham’s summer like no other

If it’s summer, sunshine and safety you want, then come down to Topsham - the estuary town just outside Exeter is open and welcoming everyone throughout the holiday season.

Many already know that Topsham is packed with independent shops, distinctive cafes and restaurants, waterside pubs and beautiful maritime architecture. All of them have been upgraded to ensure social distancing and complete safety over the summer.

But now there’s even more to discover thanks to a series of Quick Guides created by some of the town’s residents.

These Quick Guides are short three-minute reads to inspire people, even if they are already familiar with Topsham, to see the town through a different lens.

There’s an online guide with recommendations for dog walkers, history lovers, cyclists, foodie enthusiasts, shoppers, and for those with families in tow.

These can all be found on www.lovetopsham.co.uk, the website of Love Topsham, a not-for-profit community group set up to promote the town and its businesses.

“Whether a first-time visitor or a long-time fan of Topsham, we hope these give you fresh ideas to discover new things about our historic town. They’re designed to help you get the most of a visit, if it’s for just a few hours or a whole day” explains Graham Norwood, resident and volunteer with Love Topsham.

“They’re particularly useful for staycation visitors who may be based in Exeter or Exmouth and have heard about Topsham, and can use the fantastic bus, train and cycling links to and from the town to make a visit even more special” she adds.

And there’s a bonus if you visit on a Saturday morning in August - Topsham’s Summer of Sounds programme is bringing top quality local buskers to add to the entertainment.

On the main shopping area of Fore Street, you’ll see a busker playing between around 10am and 1pm each Saturday - perfect to tap your toes as you enjoy a bite to eat or some retail therapy at Topsham’s 40-plus independent stores.
