Are you struggling to find a pair of sunglasses that fit you perfectly and (more importantly) make you look cool? The right sunglasses can elevate your entire image and make you look and feel great. But finding the right sunglasses can be tricky – unless you know how.

Identify Your Face Shape

One of the best ways to find the right sunglasses is to make sure it matches the shape of your face. But to do that you first need to figure out what shape your face is.

The good news is that it really isn’t that hard to identify your face shape. All you need to do is stand at arm’s length in front of a mirror and draw the outline of your face using lipstick, a washable marker, soap, or anything else that will leave a non-permanent mark.

Based on that outline you should be able to determine if you have a:

  • Round face with nearly the same length and width as well as a rounded chin and no sharp angles.
  • Oval face where the length is greater than the width but the chin is still rounded and there are no sharp angles.
  • Square face with a close to identical length and width but an angular chin and strong jaw that is more or less the same width as your forehead.
  • Rectangular face which has a length greater than the width as well as an angular chin and jaw with the same width as your forehead.
  • Heart-shaped face with length greater than width, and a shape that narrows from your forehead down to your chin like an inverted triangle.
  • Triangular face that has a face length that is only a little greater than its width along with a wide strong chin, and narrow cheekbones and forehead.

Don’t worry if your face shape doesn’t match up exactly – and just look for what you feel is the closest to it.

Match the Frame

After you’ve identified your face shape, you can match it with the right type of frame. Here’s what you should look for:

  • Round faces go well with rectangular or square frames but should avoid round or narrow glasses.
  • Oval faces can use glasses that are rectangular, oval, or round as long as they are smooth, not too wide or too narrow, and not overly large.
  • Square faces generally fit oval, round, or teardrop frames that are large and match their width.
  • Rectangular faces can use large-framed glasses of all types but should avoid narrow and small frames.
  • Heart-shaped faces are a match for rounded glasses with small frames that aren’t too prominent or heavy.
  • Triangular faces should choose round glasses while avoiding square or rectangular frames as well as any glasses that are narrow or small.

As a rule the width of your glasses should never be too wide for your face. Additionally the height of the frame that you choose should depend on the length of your face.

Final Words

Based on the shape of your face you should be able to figure out the general shape of sunglasses that fit it best. But when it comes to picking the right one there are other factors that you should consider such as the tint, style, and so on. In some cases you may even want to look at eco friendly sunglasses that are both stylish as well as ethical.

No matter your preference, you shouldn’t rush into choosing a pair of sunglasses. Take your time, try out as many as you can, and make sure you find one that really makes you look your best.
