Heritage Open Day offers chance to learn about printed words and images
Double Elephant Print Workshop, one of Exeter’s leading community arts organisations, is opening the doors to its two professional artist studios for a Heritage Open Day later this month. It will include studio tours, printmaking demonstrations and the chance to have a go yourself.
The event takes place on Saturday 11th September 11am - 3pm. Visitors will be able to try out traditional printmaking skills as a part of the Heritage Open Days event running across the country from 10 - 19 September.
Printmaking is one of the oldest forms of reproduction of text and image. In its work running courses and providing resources for artists, Double Elephant regularly uses presses that are 200 years old and techniques dating back hundreds of years.
Inspired by this year's Heritage Open Day theme, Edible England, event-goers can try out making wrapping paper, cards and prints, using fruit, vegetables and herbs! They can learn about techniques including Monoprinting and Screenprinting, and see how these traditional processes are still used today. Visitors can also find out more about the studio and its activities, and meet some of the artists that work there.
The event is free and visitors can just drop-in to the studios, which are based at Exeter Phoenix in Bradninch Place, off Gandy Street, on the day or book a slot beforehand on the company’s website https://www.doubleelephant.org.uk/courses-2/register-for-heritage-open-day
