Princesshay hosts sustainability event for Great Big Green Week
Princesshay is set to hold a two-day sustainability event as part of Great Big Green Week 2021, a nationwide celebration of action on climate change.
The event in Princesshay Square, Bedford Street and Eastgate on Friday 24th and Saturday 25th September is a collaboration with other Exeter organisations to showcase the small steps everyone can take for a more sustainable life and the difference we can all make to the planet.
Michelle Menezes, Princesshay centre manager says, “We want this event to be a celebration of what we can all do to live more sustainably and how, when we work together, we can make a difference. Princesshay has some long-standing sustainability initiatives - all our onsite maintenance vehicles have been electric since we opened in 2007 and our brilliant City Bee Project, encouraging biodiversity and supporting honey bees, began in 2012. We will be announcing some more sustainability initiatives throughout September and October as well as highlighting sustainable choices our brands offer.”
As part of the event, Devon Contract Waste will display its range of recycled furniture in Princesshay Square and ‘Stitch It Don’t Ditch It’ will demonstrate how to fix and repair clothes, spreading their enthusiasm for mending and updating garments and keeping textiles out of landfill.
Visitors can learn more about electric vehicles and active travel with Co Cars, Co Bikes and Rapid Charging Devon plus the chance to play games, try out craft activities and find out more about cycling in the city with Exeter Cycling Campaign.
Over the two days, shoppers will be able to browse pop up shops including packaging free groceries from Nourish, beautiful bags made from recycled sails from Sails and Canvas and local flowers grown without pesticides or chemicals from Amelia’s Flower Farm.
Exhibitors also showcasing sustainable services, products and initiatives include St Sidwell’s Point, Liveable Exeter, Devon Wildlife Trust, Exeter City Futures and Ride on Cycling.
The Princesshay Sustainability Event is on Friday 24th & Saturday 25th September, from 10am to 5pm on both days, in Princesshay Square, Eastgate and Bedford Street.
This event is part of a wider We Can Do More campaign designed to put the spotlight on sustainability and act as a declaration of togetherness as we all try to take small steps to make sustainable lifestyle choices which will protect the future of our planet.
