Further £18,000 success for District's community buildings!
East Devon's village halls, community buildings and community shops successfully applied for another £18,000 of funding in January 2013 from the Community Council of Devon and East Devon District Council (EDDC).
The Community Grants Scheme is a fund that helps community buildings projects, with the Community Council of Devon offering grants of anything up to £20,000, with additional match-funding of up to £5,000 from EDDC.
The scheme has been put in place to help community buildings all around the county. Buildings eligible for funding can apply on the basis that they need to carry out capital works. This could include items such as the toilets, kitchen facilities, roof repairs, heating and door fixtures and changes of a similar kind.
There is more funding up for grabs this year and the next closing date is 31 July. You can find out more through the Community Council of Devon: www.devonrcc.org.uk/c/37/county-grant-scheme-for-community-buildings or phone 01392 248919 Ext. 240.
East Devon village halls have proved popular within the scheme. The success of village halls in the district is very important as it shows a sense of community and the willingness to keep a communal area running for the local residents.
East Devon has found the scheme a major benefit, as out of the 22 community organisations funded by the Community Council of Devon in the county in the last year, seven were based in East Devon.
Out of the £199,500 handed out in the whole County over the last year by CCD, £52,000 will be or has been received by groups in East Devon. In addition, EDDC is contributing £21,000.
The projects funded from the December closing date of the funding will be:
• Ottery St Mary Scout Group- disabled facilities, storage and small meeting room
• Hawkchurch Community Shop- creating a new community shop
Councillor David Key, Chairman of the Community Fund Panel, said: “In our rural areas, halls and community buildings are often at the very heart of the village and may be the only communal facility available to residents. East Devon District Council recognises their importance and continues to support them".
