3 Artists that Have Competed at Eurovision More than Once
It is easy to assume that once you have entered Eurovision that the end of your singing competition is pretty near. Although it is true that throughout the shows 65 year history most entrants have entered just once, there are a handful of people that have come back to compete again, or at least tried to!
Dana International – Israel – 4 Entries
If we’re putting together a list of artists that have competed at Eurovision more than once then Dana International definitely has to be on it. Dana International entered the Eurovision Song Contest for Israel a total of four times. Unfortunately, they failed to qualify for the finals (in 1995 and 2011) but both times they reached the final they ended in the top 10. 2008 saw them reach number 9 with 124 points and of course, Diva in 1998 saw them win the competition with 172 points.
Abba – Sweden – 2 (or 3) Entries
When you look at the big points scored during recent years of the Eurovision Song Contest it is hard to believe that an act could win with just 24 points. However, back in 1974 when Abba won Eurovision with Waterloo things were very different and that is exactly what they did. However, what not everyone knows is that Abba's first attempt at Eurovision came in 1973 with Ring Ring, but they were unsuccessful. However, 1974 isn’t the only year the band entered, technically they entered again in 1981 as they penned the Norwegian entry for the song contest that year.
Johnny Logan – Ireland – 2 (or 3) Entries
When Johnny Logan entered and won the 1980 Eurovision contest with 143 points it was clearly something that he didn’t want to experience more than once. However, rather than re-enter the next year, which is often a popular choice he waited for the right time. He entered the competition again in 1987, once again finishing on top with 172 points. However, that wasn’t the end of his Eurovision journey. Seen to have the magic touch for Ireland and so in 1992 he wrong their entry. Why Me? Sung by Linda Martin bagged the country 155 points and once again put a Johnny Logan on top when it comes to Eurovision competition entries – three entries into the competition and three times coming out on top can’t be bad for entertainment and the morale of the nation.
You can’t write a list of artists that have competed in Eurovision more than once without a special mention to Jean Philippe. Back in 1962, Jean Philippe entered the Eurovision Song Contest for Switzerland, showing that not only was it possible to enter the completion more than once but that you didn’t even need to represent the same country each time. He initially represented France in 1959 when he came 3rd and although Switzerland would have been hoping for a similar success story when he entered for then in 1962 he only just made the top 10.
