Staff, residents, relatives and the local community came together on July 30th at Cumberland Grange Care Home in Exeter to enjoy a Charity Summer Fete held in the home’s grounds to help raise money for the RD&E Hospital Charity – The Starfish Appeal.

Cumberland Grange hosted a variety of activities throughout the day including garden games, a bouncy castle, face painting, a BBQ, tombola, raffle, and a variety of wonderful stalls. There was live entertainment, with three different and amazing singers, including Julia Green who is also a Volunteer for Hospital Radio Exeter. All singers were absolutely fantastic and the music got everyone singing and dancing.

The Deputy Lord Mayor of Exeter, Councillor Rob Newby also attended and spent time chatting with staff, residents, family members and the community and thanked everyone for attending and supporting the great cause.

For the first time since opening in August 2021, the home was able to hold an event like this, and the staff and residents were delighted to see different generations having fun together again.

Pat, resident at Cumberland Grange, said, “It was an absolutely fantastic day, there were so many people.”

General Manager, Julie House, commented: “Staff at Cumberland Grange are dedicated to making sure that the home is a hub of the local community, and this event, along with all their hard work, has definitely paid off. It was a resounding success!”

Mica Yates, Home Services Advisor, added: “We just want to say a big thank you to everyone involved from the stall holders to everyone that came along to support us. Having personally seen exactly what the RD&E Hospital Charity are trying to raise money for, we couldn’t not help. The Starfish Appeal is an amazing cause and all funds will be going towards making improvements to the children’s ward to make it a much more friendly, welcoming and fun place to be. Some children spend weeks and even months in hospital and they deserve to be in a place that offers them comfort. We can’t thank everyone enough for coming along and spending the afternoon with us and helping us raise money.”

Cumberland Grange is run by Barchester Healthcare, one of the UK’s largest care providers, which is committed to delivering high-quality care across its care homes and hospitals. Cumberland Grange provides Residential Care, Dementia Care and Respite Care.
