Parkrun comes home to Killerton
From Saturday 13 April, the free Killerton parkrun event that takes place every Saturday at 9am returns home to its much-loved cross-country course in the parkland of Killerton National Trust estate near Exeter.
Back in February, Killerton’s historic parkland suffered water-logged ground conditions caused by months of persistent wet weather.
The slippery surface forced the popular community running event to temporarily relocate to a drier 5K course in neighbouring Ashclyst Forest.
Throughout this seven week relocation, volunteers and runners maintained their strong support for Killerton parkrun and celebrated the landmark 100th event on Easter Saturday with 115 runners being cheered through the finish.
Helen Trebble, Killerton community access officer said: "Naturally everyone is really looking forward to seeing Killerton parkrun return to its rightful home in the parkland.
"We owe a huge debt of gratitude to our team of volunteers who worked tirelessly to measure, mark and marshal the temporary course in Ashclyst Forest, as well as a big thank you to our loyal park-runners for continuing to turn up and support our event whatever the weather."
Helen continued: "Killerton’s National Trust countryside team have also worked hard behind the scenes to ensure the parkland 5K course is in good shape for our return.
"Hopefully now our runners will enjoy the benefit of much drier ground conditions and see a difference to their times. I’m sure everyone will be delighted to be back in time for our two year anniversary on 27 April."
