£5,000 raised for Blood Bike charities at Devonshire Homes’ popular Golf Day
West Country house builder Devonshire Homes has raised a fantastic £5,000 for its chosen charity partners, South West Blood Bikes and Cornwall Blood Bikes.
Devonshire Homes welcomed guests from across the housing and construction industry to Dainton Park Golf Club in Newton Abbot for its biennial Charity Golf Day. Teams of four took to the green in high spirits. Despite the grey weather, 18 teams attended to support Devonshire Homes in raising vital funds for the two Blood Bike charities. The day consisted of 18-holes and a range of competitions including the longest drive, challenge the Pro and closest to the pin. The prestigious Devonshire Homes Charity Golf Day trophy was won by the team representing Hooper Services (South West) Ltd.
The day was followed by an auction and raffle which raised further funds for both Blood Bike charities. Golfers got behind the charities and made their mark at the auction with the highest bid being made at £900. Prizes included a helicopter ride for four people, two gold passes for an Exeter Chiefs match and a round of four ball golf at Celtic Manor Resort.
Devonshire Homes has been supporting South West Blood Bikes and Cornwall Blood Bikes since 2022 with £25 from every open market sale going to each charity. Volunteer bikers use their advanced motorcycle skills to provide an ‘out of hours’ service to NHS partners, transporting essential urgent supplies such as whole blood, pathology samples, medication, medical equipment, medical notes, and donor breast milk to NHS hospitals and hospices throughout Devon and Cornwall.
Mark Bentley, Chairman and Trustee at South West Blood Bikes, commented: “Devonshire Homes hosted a wonderful event that raised an outstanding donation for South West Blood Bikes. Our team met some great companies at the Golf Day from across the housing and construction industry, and it gave us an opportunity to talk more about what we do and how their generous donations will help us continue to run our vital service. We are really grateful that so many people got behind what we do as a charity, and it was great to connect with our friends over at Cornwall Blood Bikes too!”
Jayne Penlerick, Chair at Cornwall Blood Bikes, commented: “Everyone at Cornwall Blood Bikes is very grateful to Devonshire Homes for not only raising donations for us throughout the year, but for hosting this fantastic event that will directly help our charity continue to thrive. It was a pleasure to attend the Golf Day and hopefully the golfers learnt more about what we do as a charity and how we provide such a crucial service to the NHS.”
Angus Cook, Managing Director at Devonshire Homes, commented: “We are thrilled that our 2023 Charity Golf Day was a great success. So many of our industry connections wanted to be involved and actively showed their support for these two fantastic charities.”
Angus continued: “We’d like to say a big thank you to all who attended and supported our Charity Golf Day this year, and Dainton Park Golf Club which once again, hosted a seamless event. Our Charity Golf Day is a biennial event which raises funds for wonderful local charities and we look forward to our 2025 charity golf day!”
