Sainthill House Care home collaborates with Exeter Dementia Action Alliance
Over the past year Sainthill House residential care home in Exeter has been collaborating with the Exeter Dementia Action Alliance (EDAA) having connected through a mutual friend. This month is World Alzheimer’s month and what a great way to celebrate the partnership as Sainthill held their end of summer fete on World Alzheimer’s Day. Despite the weather they made the best of it with superb singer, Will Rawlings who certainly got everyone moving and singing along.
Caroline Osterholm, Activities Coordinator said “It has been great organising and attending events this year. Our first event was a 5k walk, followed by a clothes swap, and several coffee mornings. We attended the Big Quiz quiz at the Corn Exchange, a presentation arranged by Exeter Dementia Action Alliance from John Stiles the son of the late Nobby Stiles and watched the ‘The Father’ followed by a post film discussion.Next week we are holding a quiz night for our residents, team, family and friends. All of these events have given us the opportunity to raise awareness and funds for Dementia UK and the alliance.
Penny Chudley, Manager added “Working with Gina and the alliance has supported Sainthill in raising awareness and gaining further insight in how living with dementia impacts the whole family and is a great way of sharing knowledge and collaborating in our community. By raising awareness we hope people are more open to discussing the condition and will seek support.
Barnaby Griffith, Owner said “We have recently scored 10/10 for reviews submitted to Care Homes UK by family and friends. This is a fantastic accolade for us and is a real testament to the team who really do go above and beyond. Our commitment and passion centre around our residents who are always at the fore of what we do. We work transparently providing outstanding care and continue to reflect on ways to improve our service. Penny, Caroline and the team are inspirational and constantly aspiring to create an inclusive space in our home. Linking up with Gina at the alliance late last year has been mutually rewarding”.
Gina explained “Our partnership has developed and I have been fortunate to deliver dementia workshops. It has been truly inspiring to work alongside Penny, Caroline and the team witnessing their compassion and love first hand in everything they do. Their fundraising events have been great fun and we look forward to continue collaborating in the coming months with other projects. Creating meaningful relationships with our community is so important to us. Let’s remember, together we are stronger”.
